BULIISA– A total sum of Ugx 12.5M for Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program – UWEP funds have disappeared in the oil rich land Buliisa district, it’s alleged that the above fund was given to a ghost group in the same district.
In 2017, Waaki United Women Group in Kihungya sub county applied for Ugx 12,500,000 UWEP funds. When Mr. Bernard Barugahara the Buliisa District Community Development Officer – DCDO was on a local radio station in Buliisa district on 08th, March, 2021, he said that the above group was among the three women groups which benefited from UWEP, and received Ugx 12,5000,000 in March this year.
This information shocked Waaki United Women Group members after hearing they were given the funds. This forced the group members to find out who were the members that benefited from the fund, only to find out that some individuals forged documents, and received the funds from the district in their group name.
According to the investigations, there is nothing like a of the file of the ghost group members or real group members that benefited from the fund both at the sub county, and district.
The said ghost group that benefited in the name of Waaki United Women Group had only eight forged members, and each member was given Ugx 100,000 totaling to Ugx 800,000.
According to a ghost group member who chose anonymous, this was a planned deal, and each person was suppose get Ugx 1M. Information leaking to us indicates that after withdrawing the money, the forged group chairperson disappeared, and her mobile phone is off.
Our reporter contacted Mr. Bernard Barugahara the Buliisa District Commercial Development Officer who said that he is waiting for report from the sub county since the group is at the sub county level.
